Loom & Leaf Mattress Review

The Loom & Leaf mattress is an all-foam mattress offering by Saatva. Saatva launched in 2011 and quickly became a major player in the online mattress market with a unique focus on offering eco-friendly luxury mattresses.

Saatva currently produces three mattresses: the Saatva mattress, the Zenhaven mattress, and the Loom & Leaf mattress. The Saatva is an innerspring mattress, the Zenhaven is a latex mattress, and the Loom & Leaf mattress is composed entirely of foam.

The Loom & Leaf mattress offers some great features, including cooling technology and premium foams. One of the major differences that sets the Loom & Leaf apart from many other all-foam mattresses on the market is that it comes with free white-glove delivery in the contiguous United States and does not ship compressed.

The Loom & Leaf mattress is 12 inches tall and composed of three main layers.

The top layer of the mattress uses 2 inches of Loom & Leaf’s proprietary Spinal Zone Gel. The Spinal Zone Gel is memory foam with a gel swirl; the center third of the layer is laminated with cooling gel for extra temperature regulation. This layer is designed to offer breathability and cooling. Additionally, it aims to provide the right level of support for the lumbar region, which helps promote improved spinal alignment.

The next layer of the Loom & Leaf mattress uses 2.5 inches of premium visco-elastic memory foam for additional contouring and pressure relief. The base layer of the Loom & Leaf mattress is composed of multiple layers of support foam that total 7.5 inches. This layer is designed to offer comfort and deep contouring.

The cover of the Loom & Leaf mattress is made of organic cotton. It is also quilted for additional comfort and plushness.

The Loom & Leaf mattress offers two firmness options: Relaxed Firm and Firm. These firmness choices provide additional options to sleepers, so most people should be able to find a firmness that is compatible with their preferences.

The Relaxed Firm mattress is Loom & Leaf’s most popular firmness option. The Relaxed Firm falls around 5.5 on the 10-point firmness scale, so it can be considered a medium mattress. Since most people prefer a medium to medium-firm mattress, the firmness level of the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm should appeal to many sleepers. However, it may be slightly firm for some sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds or prefer a plusher sleep surface.

The Loom & Leaf Firm mattress rates around 8 on the firmness scale, so it might be considered firm or extra firm. This firmness level might appeal to sleepers who prefer an exceptionally firm mattress or who weigh over 230 pounds and want the extra support.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Breakdown

When you are shopping for a mattress, there are a lot of different factors to consider. Below, we’ll discuss some key factors that could influence how comfortable you may feel on the Loom & Leaf mattress. If you are interested in our review process, please refer to our methodology for more information.

Is it made from quality materials?

The Loom & Leaf mattress is composed of high-density, eco-friendly foams. High-density foams are traditionally more durable and supportive than lower density foams, so the use of high-quality, high-density foams should increase the Loom & Leaf mattress’s longevity and help support good spinal alignment.

Additionally, the Loom & Leaf mattress uses eco-friendly foams. The foams are composed of 30% corn or soy oil combined with polyurethane and dacron. These foams are formulated without formaldehyde, mercury, lead, phthalates, and ozone depleters.

The cover of the mattress also uses eco-friendly materials, including organic cotton and a natural thistle flame retardant.

How long will it last?

Most all-foam mattresses last between 6-8 years. However, Loom & Leaf builds its mattresses with the goal of lasting 10 to 15 years. If the Loom & Leaf mattress does not wear well over time, a 15-year warranty offers an additional layer of protection.

How well does it conform to my body?

The Loom & Leaf mattress offers exceptional conforming. Two layers of memory foam combine to total 4.5 inches. Memory foam is popular for its ability to conform and adjust to a sleeper’s body shape to relieve pressure points and promote better spinal alignment. The Loom & Leaf’s 4.5 inches of memory foam should allow the right parts of your body to sink in. The bottom layer of the mattress offers additional deep contouring for even greater pressure relief.

Is the edge supportive?

Like most other foam mattresses, the Loom & Leaf mattress does not have a reinforced edge. Since foam compresses when weight is applied, the edge of a foam mattress may compress excessively and feel unstable when you sit or sleep close to it. The Loom & Leaf mattress lacks reinforced edges, but the foam used is denser than many other all-foam mattresses, so the Loom & Leaf may offer better edge support than some all-foam mattresses.

Does it sleep hot?

Because memory foam is designed to conform to the body, it can also trap heat to the body. The Loom & Leaf mattress’s 4.5 inches of memory foam provide exceptional conforming, but they could also trap some heat. To counteract this, the Loom & Leaf mattress features a number of cooling features. The Spinal Zone Gel layer is designed to offer cooling and breathability. The second layer of memory foam is also designed to be naturally cool.

Will it off-gas when it’s delivered?

The Loom & Leaf mattress does not ship compressed, so it is likely to off-gas less than many other foam mattresses. While the Loom & Leaf shouldn’t have a significant odor, it could still off-gas slightly. However, the odor is not harmful and it should air out within a few hours to a few days if you leave the mattress in a well-ventilated area.

Will I feel my partner move during the night?

The Loom & Leaf mattress offers exceptional motion isolation, so you might be less likely to notice your partner moving during the night. The Loom & Leaf mattress’s foam layers can absorb a good deal of motion, which can prevent the motion from spreading across the surface of the bed.

Who is Best Suited for a Loom & Leaf Mattress?

The Loom & Leaf mattress offers two firmness options, which allows it to accommodate a variety of sleep styles. However, mattress feel is a personal preference. While each person has their own unique taste in what makes a mattress feel comfortable, there are some key factors that can play a role. Sleep position and weight are two of the most notable factors.

The Loom & Leaf mattress offers features that will appeal to side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers. The 4.5 inches of memory foam provides pressure relief and support that may be beneficial for side and back sleepers. The Spinal Zone Gel layer offers additional support to the lumbar region, which could prevent stomach sleepers’ midsections from sinking in excessively.

Weight could also affect who is best suited for the Loom & Leaf mattress. The Loom & Leaf mattress’s two firmness options can provide good support and contouring for most weight groups. The Relaxed Firm is a medium firmness, so it should feel appropriate to most average weight sleepers and sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds. However, for some lightweight sleepers, it could be slightly firm, which might prevent them from sinking in deeply enough to appreciate the Loom & Leaf’s contouring. The Firm is a firm or extra firm mattress, which could provide the extra support many sleepers over 230 pounds prefer. A firm mattress like the Loom & Leaf Firm can prevent sleepers in this weight group from sinking in excessively.
