Snowboard bindings are essential when you need to snowboard, in fact, it is pretty impossible to snowboard without them. They are the mechanism that actually holds your boot to the snowboard, and it transfers all of the movements that you make through your muscles to the snowboard itself. This then allows you to swift speedily down the mountain or even try out some new tricks on your board if this is what you’re more in to.
There are many snowboard bindings, and a lot of brands sell different types, but you must remember to always get the correct size for your boot. This can be quite difficult as there is no standard size across the industry, so it’s more a form of trying different ones until you find the perfect match for your boot.
How to Fit Snowboard Bindings
There are actually two different types of snowboard bindings. There is one that is a rear-entry, and all that you have to do is simply slip your boot into this one, and it will lock in. The other type is a strap-in binding where it has two straps, one of these is normally across your ankle while the other is just across your toes.
If you want to set up your binds on your board by yourself, it is actually not as difficult as it may seem. To do this, you will need a screwdriver so you’re able to mount the bindings and then you will need a wrench so you can fit the bindings to your boots. You may also need some Allen keys.
But before you do anything you need to find your lead foot, once you have done that you need to figure out which binding is for the right foot, and then you need to figure out how wide you stand naturally. Once you have done that you then need to make marks on the snowboard of where your feet naturally stand. Once you have followed these steps, you need to figure out your binding angles. If you’re new to this, they will be more likely facing a little outwards.
Once you have figured all of this out, you then need to place your binding disc on the exact position that you desire it to be and then screw holes into the front of your snowboard. Then you simply need to turn the screws loosely and then place the bind over the top and tighten the screws together, so it is then fixed. One tip to remember is that you should not over tighten it.
Next, you need to use your screwdriver to release the channel plug out of the channel at the front of your snowboard. Once this is done you, then need to slide the channel inserts through the channel opening and reinsert the plug. Then you need to grab the binding and put it on top of the channel inserts and start screwing the channel inserts, but make sure you can still move the binding. Then put the binding in your desired place and make sure the stance angle is at 15 degrees. Also, check that there is the same amount of space at the front and back of the board and then tighten the screws.
Removing Snowboard Bindings
If you do wish to remove the bindings off of your snowboard, it’s as simple as putting them onto it. In fact, all that you need to do is follow the instructions above but in the reverse order. So make sure you have a screwdriver, wrench and some Allen keys handy.
Storing Snowboard Bindings
If you do want to store your snowboard you must always remove your snowboard bindings; otherwise, you may not notice pieces that are broken and parts that may be a little rusty. One thing that you must do is always make sure you wash and dry all of your snowboarding equipment before you store them away. But one thing you mustn’t do is get water in the bindings. After you have done this, it’s important to wax them using hot wax, and then you can find an ideal place to store them, which must be in a cool, dry place that is out of sunlight.
